About Us

The Great American Dream Machine line of model concept cars began in 1980.  I first discovered them in 1992, when I started my collection with the beautiful dark green Chrysler K-310. This model attracted my attention because it looked vaguely like the Chrysler Imperial that my father owned in 1978. It was a favorite of mine and I drove it to my high school prom.

From there, I sought out the entire line of model cars, which were rare and hard to find.   I eventually found the last remaining car (the 55 Futura) on eBay and paid a whopping $450 for it.

Great American Dream Machines Today

Today, the Great American Dream Machines continue to be built in England by SMTS.  All of the models are made from durable, high-quality white metal. Improved vacform and decal technology have improved the quality of our models since they were first introduced in the late 1980s.

I have come to learn that there were more than 100 “Dream Cars” made in the 1950s and 1960s. We have been slowly adding to the collection by making new models each year and we have also recently added the Quarter Mile series to the line of Great American Dream Machines.  The Quarter Mile series is a collection of drag racing model cars.

All Great American Dream Machines are made in very limited numbers.  Pre-orders are strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.

We’d love to hear your suggestions about which Dream Machine to create next.  If you have an idea, please contact us here.

Great American Dream Machines is now owned by The Burt Collection, a classic and vintage car collection just north of Chicago, Illinois.
