Hurst Hemi Under Glass

Hurst Hemi Under Glass was the name of a succession of drag racing cars from 1965 to 1975. The cars were created by placing a Chrysler Hemi Engine into the rear of a Plymouth Barracuda and covering the engine with glass so it could be admired from outside. The sheer weight of the Chrysler Hemi engine made the Hurst Hemi Under Glass a true wheelstander and the car would race down the drag strip with its front wheels in the air, much to the spectators’ delight!

Three versions of the Hurst Hemi Under Glass were developed with the assistance of drag racer “Wild” Bill Shrewsberry and they were always raced by Bob Riggle, 1975 when Riggle moved away to Arizona. He would return to racing in 1992 in a replica of the 1968 model.
