1965 Corvette Mako Shark II

While the Mako Shark I was a version of the original Mako Shark, the Mako Shark II was its own vehicle. It had a removable roof to offer better access to the seats, which led to removable roof hatches in 1968-82 production Corvettes.  The paint scheme was dark on the top and light on the bottom, like a shark that designer Mitchell caught while fishing. The car used black paint extensively, rather than chrome.

Under the hood was as 427 cubic inch V8. The headlight covers slid back into the body to reveal French made lenses. The rear roofline featured louvers over the glass which could be made flat with the push of a button. The headrests were suspended over each seat from the ceiling and could be adjusted for height. The steering wheel could telescope and tilt. The forward section of the roof was hinged and could easily be removed. The entire hood and front fender section swung up and forward for engine servicing. Because the seats were hard fastened, the accelerator and brake pedals were adjustable. The Shark used an advanced six headlight system.  Each side contained three lamps and one reflector. If a light burned out, it showed on the console.
